The Central Egg Agency Ltd is a co-operative registered under the friendly society act and is designed and run by the industry for the good of the industry.
Its aims are to assist in the movement of uncommitted eggs from areas of surplus to areas of shortages at a true market price and in doing so prevent market disruption which could lead to eggs being dumped on the wholesale market at prices well below the true market price.
At the same time collecting market information, this coupled with the information gained by trading puts the agency in a unique position, enabling it to set a true market price for the wholesale market in the United Kingdom. Any responsible individual or company involved in the production and marketing of eggs can join it, once a member the pulse of the market place is available to you on the other end of the phone five days a week.
Although the agency is a non-profit orientated organization any surplus funds are held as a surety in case of bad debt insuring that any member who sells eggs through the agency is paid. The agency charges an annual membership fee plus a small commission on trade, see Membership page on this site.
The Agency offers its members an unrivalled level of service, below I will talk you through a typical trade. Every morning buyers and sellers will be talking to the agency traders and a pattern and price will emerge. This price can vary from region to region and as the traders are talking deals will take place at a price acceptable to both seller and buyer (true market price). As everyone is aware of the agency fee there is no disruption to the market place by someone taking an unknown percentage.
Once a trade has been agreed along with delivery details the agency emails or faxes both parties their confirmation. They then have 24hours to check the trade is correct, if it’s not what they understood they inform the agency who undertake to negotiate any alterations. The trade is then entered on to the agency system, the eggs are delivered along with an invoice in the name of the agency. The seller invoices the agency directly and is paid within 28 days, the buyer pays the agency in 21 days. The Agency is responsible to see that every part of the trade runs smoothly.
All information is stored within a unique program which allows the agency to look at trends and track eggs. All Lion egg trades are flagged and we provide the B E I C with a full accountability of all lion eggs traded (unique traceability). Our Service includes trades in all categories of eggs colony / barn / free range / organic – we also trade first and second quality eggs onto the processing market.
